Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart. Venous reflux disease develops when the valves malfunction and no longer keep blood flowing in one direction out of the legs and back to the heart. This back flow of blood causes increased pressure on the leg veins. As a result, vein valves will not close properly, leading to signs and symptoms of varicose veins.

We offer a venous closure procedure that can be safely performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, we position the ClosureFASTâ„¢ catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by radiofrequency energy delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins.Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site, and additional compression provided to aid healing.

Treatment for venous insufficiency is recommended if you have symptoms such as leg pain, swelling, heaviness, or visible varicose veins. Untreated venous insufficiency can lead to more serious complications, including chronic venous ulcers or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
How is RFA performed?
During RFA, a catheter is inserted into the affected vein through a small incision, usually in the groin or behind the knee. Radiofrequency energy is then delivered through the catheter to heat and seal the vein. This procedure is guided by ultrasound to ensure precise placement and effectiveness.
